Questions people actually ask us.

Everything from pricing to safety to cold storage specs, answered honestly, no jargon.

The basics

Material, safety & certification

What is TKG insulation made of?

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) sheets, 98% air trapped in polystyrene, making them lightweight and highly efficient. It's the same material used in food packaging, building insulation worldwide, and pharmaceutical cold storage.

What certifications does TKG have?

TKG meets international standards: ASTM C578 (rigid cellular polystyrene thermal insulation), ASTM D6817/D6817M (compressive strength) and ASTM D1621 (compression properties). All batches are tested and certified.

Is it environmentally friendly?

EPS is recyclable and non-toxic. We use CFC-free and HCFC-free blowing agents, so there's no ozone depletion. The material is inert, it doesn't off-gas or break down, and can be recycled or safely landfilled.

Is it safe for children and people with asthma?

Completely. EPS is chemically inert, non-fibrous, with no VOCs or off-gassing. It's used in hospitals, pharma facilities and food plants worldwide. Safe for kids, pets and respiratory sensitivities.

Can it be fire resistant?

Standard EPS is combustible and should not be relied on for fire resistance. Where a fire rating is needed, sheets must be protected with non-combustible layers (concrete screed, gypsum). Always consult local codes and our team for fire-sensitive projects.

What's the difference between sheet densities?

Densities run from 10 to 32 kg/m³. Lower (10–16) is best for walls, mid-range (20–24) is best for roofs, and higher (24–32) offers the compressive strength needed for cold storage, freezer floors and load-bearing slabs. We recommend the right density for your application.

What's the difference between EPS and XPS insulation?

EPS is made from small foam beads fused together, XPS is one continuous extruded sheet. XPS has a slightly higher R-value per inch and better moisture resistance, but EPS covers a much wider density range for different jobs, roofs, walls, and cold storage all use different EPS grades. For Karachi's typical roof and wall applications, EPS is the standard choice.

Pricing, safety & what to expect

How is it priced and how do I calculate cost?

Sheets are priced per sheet, by density. Take your total area, divide by the sheet size (32 sq ft for a standard 8×4 ft sheet), round up since we don't sell partial sheets, then multiply by the price per sheet. Send us your dimensions for a precise quote.

Will it cause roof leakage?

No. Installed under a waterproof protective screed, EPS actually protects the slab from thermal cracking. We always check and repair existing waterproofing first, if your roof leaks, we fix that before insulating.

Can it go in an apartment or top-floor portion?

Yes. We offer the false-ceiling method (no roof access needed) or coordinate roof access with building management. False ceiling delivers 60–70% of the over-roof benefit with zero disruption.

Will it add structural load to my roof?

No significant load, EPS is 98% trapped air. The protective screed adds some weight, but standard Karachi RCC roofs handle it easily. We verify structural capacity during the survey.

How long will it last?

20–30+ years when properly installed and protected. EPS is chemically stable against heat, humidity and salt air, retaining 94%+ of its insulating value after 15 years.

How does it compare to reflective heat paint?

Paint reflects about 20% of sunlight and fades with dust, needing reapplication every 2–3 years. TKG blocks heat transfer permanently with a stable R-value for 20+ years, roughly 15× better ROI over a decade.

Commercial & cold storage

Facilities, freezers & pharma cold chain

Can it reduce industrial cooling costs?

Significantly. Factories, warehouses and processing facilities see 25–40% electricity reduction. With large surface areas, payback is typically 1.5–3 years, then pure operational savings.

Will installation disrupt operations?

Installs are scheduled during low-production periods, weekends, nights or seasonal downtime. Most roof retrofits take 3–5 days and can be phased across areas to minimise impact.

What density do you recommend for cold storage?

24–32 kg/m³. Higher density gives compressive strength under continuous freezing cycles, excellent R-value retention in extreme cold, and resistance to frost-heave pressure.

Does it hold R-value in freezing temperatures?

Yes. EPS maintains 94%+ of its performance even at −30°C and below, ideal for pharma cold rooms, food freezers and blood-bank storage.

How does it prevent frost heave?

Under-floor insulation stops ground moisture beneath the slab from freezing and lifting the structure. For critical applications we use high-density EPS with proper vapour barriers.

Is it suitable for pharmaceutical cold storage (2–8°C)?

Yes. It's non-toxic, holds R-value precisely at 2–8°C, is non-reactive with products, and is widely used in pharma logistics. We can meet GxP compliance requirements.
